John Velez was just 17 when he was found guilty of killing Anthony Hueneca in March 2001. Velez served 16 years in prison before the conviction was vacated after a witness’s admission that he hadn’t actually seen the shooting happen.
The man, 26, was arguing with someone about 3:35 a.m. in the 500 block of East 47th Street when he was shot in the chest and arm, Chicago police said.
Chad Irish, 55, is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and misdemeanor menacing, according to Manhattan prosecutors.
The man was struck multiple times in the body and he was taken to Stroger Hospital where he died, Chicago police said.
