From 1968 to today, volunteers in Chicago aim to connect visitors to their city, and to see some of the convention action themselves.
The June 19 federal and state holiday honors the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans learned they had been freed — two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Morgan Stanley employees joined Kaboom staffers in creating a safe play space at the Mitzi Freidheim Child & Family Center. "Being able to wave to the kids and seeing the excitement on their faces has been just amazing," one volunteer said.
