Gov. J.B. Pritzker's office optimistically put out a statement to celebrate the budget’s spending measure after it cleared the Illinois House. But the revenue measure was trickier.
Friday's self-imposed adjournment date passed with no revenue, appropriations or budget implementation measures brought to the floor in the House or Senate. House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch said Saturday the House will adjourn for the holiday weekend and return next week to consider the budget.
While revenue sore spots were a focal point of many meetings among top Democrats, the governor’s office and stakeholders, it appears the governor is poised to get the revenue he had sought in his own budget proposal, with some concessions and some additions.
