Most law enforcement agencies don't track transgender homicides, but researchers have recorded more than 300 transgender people murdered nationwide between 2010 and 2021. The national clearance rate is just over 50%, but Chicago police have cleared only 14%, researchers found.
About 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, the teen was walking in the 7700 block of South Essex Avenue when someone in a dark-colored vehicle opened fire, Chicago police said.
About 12:30 a.m., officers responded to calls of a person down in the 4700 block of South Marshfield Avenue and found a male laying in the street with a gunshot wound to his head, Chicago police said.
Police say the 31-year-old woman was found wrapped in a sleeping bag on the street.
