The Education Department said states risk federal funding if they don’t end DEI programs the feds deem illegal. Illinois said it already pledges to comply with anti-discrimination laws.
The former Northwestern players have agreed to settle lawsuits against the school that allege hazing and abusive behavior. A school spokesperson said the agreement ‘‘will fully resolve the student plaintiffs’ claims’’ against the school and former football coach Pat Fitzgerald.
