The final straw for Ald. David Moore and his constituents was the killing Sunday night of 18-year-old Trinity Boswell.
In interviews with WBEZ, several decried the length of sentence the 80-year-old could face, while a handful of others said he deserves significant time in prison.
The document includes 675 gang factions department members are forbidden from joining – but no hate or extremist groups. A police spokesperson indicated such groups will be identified on a case-by-case basis.
Then-Mayor Richard M. Daley “saw this as an opportunity to show a city that does work — not a city that crumbles under the pressure of protesters," said Leslie Fox, executive director of the 1996 convention's host committee. "The stakes were pretty high.”
