Jim Wales is a fan of NASCAR, but he’d like to see it directly invest in Grant Park. The community group leader pointed to Lollapalooza donating $500,000 to fix up the park's tennis courts and add pickleball courts.
The Rules Committee voted down a resolution that would have converted the Legislative Reference Bureau into the Office of Legislative Counsel. That new office would have been charged with giving “competent, unbiased advice” on parliamentary procedure and other legal matters.
The city offers longer days and year-round care for families who meet certain income thresholds but many of the programs are under-enrolled.
Proponents say widening the accessory dwelling unit program would combat the affordable housing shortage and add density to neighborhoods, but add that construction costs can rise quickly.
