The service was largely a celebration of the 73-year-old’s legacy in multiple law enforcement agencies, including being one of the first Black members of the CPD bomb squad and one of the longest-serving members of the team.
The man was walking in the 6300 block of South Stewart Avenue when a group approached and someone stabbed him, police said.
"May we all continue to strive to be our true, authentic selves as we continue our life journeys," one wrote.
About half of the layoffs affected teacher aides. CPS Officials said only about 5% of all teacher aides lost their positions and that most will find jobs in other schools.
