Man gunned down in Greater Grand Crossing

The 30-year-old was getting into a vehicle in the 7900 block of South Wabash Avenue early Friday when assailants approached and shot him, police said.


A man was killed in a shooting in Greater Grand Crossing Friday morning on the South Side. Nicholas Hughes, 30, was getting into a vehicle in the 7900 block of South Wabash Avenue about 6:41 a.m. when armed assailants approached and shot him, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where he later died, according to police. No one is in custody, and Area 2 detectives are investigating.
