10 killed, 34 wounded across Chicago; 3rd straight weekend with 30-plus shootings

No arrests have been made in any of the attacks. The number of shootings rivals Memorial Day weekend, when at least 42 people were shot between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Tuesday. Nine people were shot to death that weekend.


Ten people were killed and at least 34 were injured in shootings citywide over the weekend, marking the third in a row in which more than 30 people were shot.The fatal attacks happened as far north as the West Ridge neighborhood and as far south as Roseland and include one man shot on the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway. Police reported no arrests in any of the shootings.The number of victims approached the number who were shot over the long Memorial Day weekend, when at least between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Tuesday. Nine people were killed that holiday weekend. Most recently, just after 4 a.m. Monday, police found a 44-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his e torso in the 1400 block of South Morgan Street in the Little Italy neighborhood. He was dead on the scene.Police responded to calls of a person shot in Roseland and found 26-year-old Kenneth E. Brown between two houses in the 11500 block of South State Street about 8 p.m. Sunday, the Cook County medical examiner’s office and police said. Brown, who had been shot multiple times in his back, was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:49 p.m., the office said. A witness told police two men got out of a black sedan and shot Brown before getting back into the car and fleeing, police said.The 12100 block of South Halsted Street in West Pullman.Google MapsTwo people were shot in Little Village Sunday around 8:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of West 31st Street. A 23-year-old man was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, and a 35-year-old man was in critical condition at the same hospital. A 28-year-old man was driving south in the 12100 block of South Halsted Street about 5:51 p.m. Sunday when someone in a black sedan , hitting the man multiple times, police said. The victim then hit a parked car, causing his vehicle to catch on fire. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.Less than an hour later and about 1½ miles away, a 14-year-old boy and 55-year-old woman were on the sidewalk in the 11800 block of South Michigan Avenue about 6:37 p.m. Sunday when people in a nearby vehicle , police said. The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, and the woman was taken to Christ Medical Center. Both were in fair condition with gunshot wounds to their right legs.About 3:40 a.m. Sunday, someone opened fire in the 1300 block of West 72nd Street in the Englewood neighborhood, in a parked car, police said. She was shot in her head and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.Five hours later and less than 2 miles away, a 36-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds in an alley in the 700 block of 66th Place, according to police. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.Two teens and a 12-year-old boy were also wounded in a Friday night in the Douglas neighborhood.A 16-year-old boy was standing in a fast food restaurant parking lot in the 3400 block of South King Drive just before 10:15 p.m. when someone opened fire, police said.He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition after being shot in his abdomen.Tywaun Donald, 26, was fatally shot Friday in the local northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway at 35th Street, according to Illinois State Police and the medical examiner’s office.
